I write in grateful thanks for the care given to my Aunt. She spent 11 years in the Home, and
during that time her care was excellent, especially during the last 18 months of her life. The care given by all staff was exemplary. I cannot express my gratitude to the whole team highly enough, but thank you to everyone at Combe Hay

“When the weather is good I like to go for a stroll in the gardens and take a seat by the fish pond or in the large summer house. I have most of my meals in the dining room but enjoy a leisurely breakfast each morning in my own room. The food is always varied and delicious – worthy of a top-class restaurant.” Mr R

“The general atmosphere in the Home is completely informal and friendly but the first-class staff never lose sight of the individual needs of the residents and are there to meet these needs at all times. Being run as a charity by its valued trustees there are no shareholders’ dividends to consider, only the welfare of its residents. I would like to put on record my appreciation and thanks for the care and support your team have given (and continue to provide) to my Mother who has been a resident of Combe Hay for the past 18 months.

What I see are staff who really care and genuinely engage with my Mum. They are always positive  and really do appear to enjoy their work . Importantly she always seems to see the same group of carers resulting in her trusting and developing  positive relationships with those whom she has direct contact.

When she became seriously ill in late 2016 your staff gave up their time to sit with her in hospital so we should not be alone .(You may recall we were 2 days travel away). Indeed without your team’s intervention in recognising there was a serious problem and summoning medical help I doubt if she would have survived.

She has clearly benefited from the freshly prepared food that is  provided. Not a hint of a bought in ready meal! The fact that she is given a multiple choice menu  at every meal maximises the chances of her eating , which was  a real problem before she came to Combe Hay.

Obviously your staff will have there own personal ups and downs and there will be internal management challenges , but in my experience this is never transmitted outwardly in dealing with the residents of Combe Hay. They are always professional.

Incidentally she always looks immaculate when I visit.

Her room and the communal areas are always clean and the  gardens are  a delight with the bonus of the extensive vegetable plot providing fresh produce for the kitchen . Frankly, Combe Hay continues to have the feel of a well run  hotel rather than a care facility.

None of this could happen without a strong set of values and effective management emanating from the Trustees and yourself. Combe Hay is a credit to it’s leadership.

Obviously my Mother periodically becomes a bit downhearted but with the help of your team , the engaging activities and the great friendships she has developed this soon  passes .

When choosing a care home for a relative you want them to be well cared for, safe and in a pleasant environment. From my perspective Combe Hay offers this at an unparalleled level which is why I choose to leave her in your care and undertake a 5 hour return journey to visit. I can sleep at night knowing she is in the safest of environments.
